Invisible Interfaces

INVISIBLE INTERFACES

Everyday interfaces appeared without asking for attention:

  • Face ID recognized you.
  • A one-time passcode arrived from Messages.
  • Maps rerouted around traffic.
  • Music continued with the next song.
  • A package moved out for delivery.
  • A calendar suggested when to leave.
  • AirPods connected automatically.
  • An email address filled itself.

Demanding Attention

Find the photograph.

The Great Simplification

The same task, five ways. First you type where the photograph is. Then you point at it. Then you touch it. Then you ask for it. Finally, the photograph simply appears before you ask. Each paradigm asks a little less of you: the cost falls from ninety seconds of typed commands to nothing at all.

THE ENTRUSTED TASK

This task will not run while you watch it.

Find the photograph from the beach, three years ago. Repair the damaged scan. Keep the original.

The system can locate, repair, compare, and stage a private copy. It cannot begin until your attention leaves this tab. Return whenever you choose; returning early pauses what remains.
